The Beck Theatre is delighted to congratulate this year’s swashbuckling housemate hero, Ryan Thomas who was crowned the winner of Celebrity Big Brother before he swaps the Diary Room for the number one Dressing Room and prepares for his role as the villainous Captain Hook in this year’s must-see Beck pantomime, Peter Pan from Friday 7 December.

Salford-born Ryan burst onto television screens on Christmas Day in 2000 in the role of Jason Grimshaw in the iconic ITV soap Coronation Street, a role he played for over 16 years. Best known for romantic entanglements, Ryan left Weatherfield last year in an emotional departure following the death of his on-screen father. Since leaving the famed cobbles of Coronation Street Ryan has recently starred in another iconic soap in Australia’s hugely popular Neighbours as the mysterious Rafael Humphreys.

Peter Pan marks Ryan’s third pantomime appearance having made his debut as Prince Charming in the Wyvern Theatre production of Cinderella for producers Daryl Back in association with HQ Theatres in 2016. Having swapped the search for the girl who fits the glass slipper for a more malevolent search of Neverland to hunt down the boy who refuses to grow up, Ryan made his debut as Captain Hook at Venue Cymru last year where he won rave reviews and delighted audiences members.

The Celebrity Big Brother winner, and Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls survivor Ryan will be joined by the hilarious Ben Watson as his first mate, Smee. Ben is no stranger to pantomime having delighted theatregoers for the last six years at the White Rock Theatre in Hastings for producer Daryl Back in association with HQ Theatres.

Having trained at both Central School of Speech and Drama and the National Youth Theatre, Ben has forged a successful stage career across musical theatre, plays, comedies, and, of course, pantomime, with additional credits including lead roles in The Blues Brothers which toured both the UK and Japan, Bjorn in Abba Mania, Tabaqui in The Jungle Book, Flute in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Antipholus in The Comedy of Errors (both for the Cambridge Shakespeare Festival), Mrs Warren’s Profession directed by Sir Peter Hall at the Theatre Royal Bath, most recently I Capture the Castle on tour across the UK and various productions at both the Brighton and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals.

Climbing aboard with them will be Liam Ross-Mills as Peter Pan, Lauren Stroud as Tinkerbell and Mrs Darling, Lucy Pollard as Wendy, Abigail Matthews as Eliza and Tiger Lily, Michael Dyer as Starkey and with Abigail Logan, Lewis Cudmore, Angus Good and Blair Cameron. Peter Pan will be adapted by Simon Aylin, directed by Ian McFarlane with choreography by Damian Czarnecki and musical supervision by Ben Kennedy.

Peter Pan’s Executive Producer Daryl Back said: “With only a few months to go before we embark on our enchanting trip to Neverland at the Beck Theatre I’m absolutely delighted about Ryan’s recent Big Brother win. Having worked with him on his pantomime debut two years ago I know first-hand just how great an actor he is, and a wonderful company member. We can’t wait to have him back in panto land and joined by Ben and the team.”

Peter Pan, which is adapted from the original by J M Barrie, at Beck Theatre runs from Friday 7 to Sunday 30 December 2018.
