How does retail look one month after shops were able to open?

With non-essential retail gradually opening their doors from Monday 15 June, intu Uxbridge – one month on – is now operating with nearly all its stores open, with many brands reporting positive sales and an ‘above-expectation’ in the number of visitors returning.

Further relaxation in government guidance has also seen restaurants and cafes given the green light to serve visitors again, allowing the likes of Nandos, Wagamamas and Wrapchic to open for social distanced dining and take aways. Most fashion brands have opened too, such as H&M, Debenhams, River Island, Topshop and many more.

During these weeks, intu Uxbridge has continued to maintain its high standards of cleanliness throughout the centre. We have social distancing measures throughout the centre, as well as hand sanitisation stands through the malls for people to use on entering and during their visit. The team continue to be on hand to help and reassure each visitors while offering and friendly and welcoming face.

As from Friday, and in line with government guidelines, anyone visiting intu Uxbridge, whether that is to work or shop, must wear a face covering when entering and walking around the malls. Anyone not wearing one could be refused entry to the centre or asked to leave. There are some exceptions, these being children under 11, people with disabilities or those with breathing difficulties. Members of the team will be on hand to support our visitors throughout their visit.

General manager at intu Uxbridge, Laurie Taylor commented: “We have now seen many of our brands return and opening safely, adding to the already positive vibe within the centre. The public response has been fantastic and everyone is observing the guidelines to shop safely. We will soon see further brands open and we continue to move a step closer to returning to a sense of normality.”

He adds: “Throughout the pandemic, we have been and will continue to do everything we can to make sure intu Uxbridge is a safe place to visit and work. That includes following the guidance from Public Health England and the Government. People are really enjoying being back, and making the most of a little retail therapy.

“In addition to the existing safety measures we already have in place, from 24 July everyone that visits the centre, whether that’s to work or to shop, will need to wear a face covering. We know that the experience will feel different, however we hope these measures will help provide all our visitors with additional reassurance.”

Odeon is expected to open at the end of July.
